How it all started

In September of 2007, Frank Riccardi decided to start up a delicious (not to mention convenient) hot dog cart on Lincoln Highway in DeKalb, IL, across the street from Otto’s Nightclub and just down the road from the other clubs and bars in town. Its hours of operation were on Friday and Saturday nights from 10pm to 3am. Most of the time, Frank ran the cart by himself, though, when he needed it, his son Tony was always there to help. With its delicious food and great location—plus Frank’s winning charm and friendly personality—the cart quickly became a hit!

About a year later, on July 20th, 2008, Frank and his lovely wife Sue opened Riccardi’s Red Hots & Soda Fountain in Sycamore, IL. Their goal was to create a 50’s style diner with friendly service, an “at home” feel and the best darn food in town. With their hard work and their commitment to find the best tasting ingredients, they succeeded!

At Riccardi’s Red Hots & Soda Fountain, we mix our own secret seasoning for our hamburgers, so you won’t be able to find another burger that tastes as good as ours. Our chili is handmade by Sue and it’s some of the best chili you’ll ever have. Did we mention the ice cream? We have scrumptious soft-serve vanilla ice cream and tons of boss toppings!

We’re located in Sycamore on State Street, right next to the Sycamore Movie Theater and just a minute’s walk away from most of the bars downtown. Drop by for lunch, dinner, or a late night snack! Or call us on the horn and we’ll bring something to you.

True to the memory of the cart, we’re open Friday and Saturday nights until 3am!
